02/25/22 Research assistant positions

Interested in economics? Like history? Want to gain some hands-on research experience?

I'm planning to hire two additional research assistants at Vanderbilt to help with a research project looking at scientists at the beginning of the eighteenth century. These positions are a perfect fit for someone with an interest in history, a desire to gain research experience, and a strong work ethic. The work will involve reading and extracting data from the biographies of eighteenth-century scientists in order to understand how scientific communication networks influenced the development of technologies that later drove the Industrial Revolution. More information about the research project can be found here.

I plan to conduct short interviews with applicants in the third week of May. The expected time commitment during the Summer term is about ten to twenty hours per week on average. Commitment to a higher number of hours, proficiency in French, and prior research experience are a plus. I would like to fill at least one of the positions with a French native speaker or someone with an excellent command of the language. The weekly hours are flexible, meaning that successful candidates would be able to choose their workload freely as long as it averages to ten to twenty hours per week over the summer. The hourly pay is competitive and all tasks can be done remotely.
